Hi!
I've had similar problems. Nightowl all my life. I began having a harder time waking mornings while in high school. I struggled with college and when I taught school. However, I don't think I actually missed anything, but tended to be late alot. I really feel for you for I know this effects your everyday life greatly. And for that reason alone, I feel it's important to look into. I just found out in 1994 from being tested in the sleep clinic that I have narcolepsy and a mild case of sleep apnea. I don't really know but I do think it can be hereditary. My older son is VERY much like me and always has been (even before he was born). He was more active later at night. I've always said this problem sort of makes me feel like a vampire. It sure doesn't fit into the real world. Something that helped me somewhat, I read about it in a book in the library. Instead of forcing yourself to get up earlier, stay up an hour later each night and sleep and hour later each day until you work yourself around the clock to where you want to be. It took me about 2 weeks to do this. And I know it's impossible if you have a job. But it worked quite well. But you have to stick to your schedule strictly or you'll get out of whack. I had a doctor one time tell me to cut out all meds that affected my sleep and try going to bed when I was sleepy and get up when I awoke on my own. Do this until I was going to bed at the same time and awakening at the same each day. This would indicate my natural circadian rhythm or biological clock. My natural pattern is to go to bed at 2 A.M. and awaken at noon. THat doesn't really fit the every day world, so you see why I had to work on it. Good luck to you and let me know what you decide to do! God bless you!
