My daughter was born with a rare condition known as central apnea. Instead of an obstruction, this is caused by failure of the hypothalmus to signal the lungs to breathe. It was life-threatening in my daughter's condition. It is usually associated with very young or very old, but it does exist in a very few young adults. Needless to say, the condition is not associated with snoring, but is definitely apnea!
