I had the UP3 operation on January 27, 1998.
My RDI went from 71 to 9 and I am free of the CPAP machine and mask. There is no substitute for homework. My OSA doctor sent me to an ENT doctor for an evaluation. I was advised that for my specific paramaters, an operatiion would improve my condition.
I had no problem with the insurance company. My insurance company has demonstrated that it wouldn't sacrifice my long term health for their short term profits. It appears that their decisiion to approve my UP3 operation was based on my specific needs and not some obstract statistics. Statistics on this operation are like any other statistics, you can have numbers tell any story you want to tell. In my personal experience, anyone who has first done their homework and then had the UP3 operation has had success. This means having your ENT and OSA doctors work with you in your decision process.
Best of luck,
Richard
