Hi there. I feel for your sons prolbem. I am licensed respiratorytherapist and he sounds like he has many of the symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. This a syndrome caused by obstructiion of the upper airway. SOme of the symptoms include

daytime tiredness, poor quality of sleep
snoring(which is never normal)
headaches,
it is a common prolbems but many people are left undiagnosed until later in life. If his parents or grandparents ever snored, this is a risk factor for him.

To discover if he has this a simple oxygen test at night well he sleeps can be performed. This includes wearing a clothes pin type probe on his finger called a pulse oxymetry. It is painfree and some local homecare companies that specialze in respiratory equipment perform these tests with doctors orders. our local company performs them at no cost. good luck.
