RLS is a disorder of wakefulness, and discovered thru clinical investigation. No sleep study is needed, as this technology will not validate the RLS symptomatology. However many patients who suffer from sleep disordered breathing puntuate the end of occlusive events with limb movements. often noted by bed partners. Once clinically discerned that the symptomatology is nocturnal not diurnal, a sleep study can be ordered. The SDB is treated first.
