I am a 28 year old veterinarian, and I am having trouble staying in a normal sleep pattern. We are a very busy Veterinary practice, and I think it is more than just being tired form long days at work. I seem to sleep fine for a numbers of days, then I will sleep a little bit when I get home from work for 30 minutes to 1 hour or maybe a little more. Then I have touble getting sleep that night. I seem to stay awake until 2-3 AM. Then it just rolls on to the next day and I take a nap again when I get home from the clinic and then I am up half the night, and on to the next day. I really get into a rut, and find it hard to get out.
I try to keep active after supper and through the eveing so I don't give myself a chance to sit on the couch and fall asleep, but sometimes I just can't keep awake. It is starting to have a detrimental effect on my marriage because I am on the internet or watching TV instead of being in bed. I know also that nutrition could be involved. With our busy schedule our diets are not the best. Any Ideas would be helpful. Thanks Dr. Craig Iwanski
