Stress, and poor sleep hygiene are the biggest antagonists of sleep. If you are in generally good health, and do not have a history of heavy snoring (or other symptoms), these two are probably significant factors. An overnight polysomnography will determine if there is a sleep disorder, or whether behavior modification would have a significant effect.
