They don't seem to discuss it, but it looks like a backup EKG channel. It is used on most of the montages in the book and on some pages the EKG looks better using these leads.

Also noted that the filter settings are the same as EKG, low filter 1hz, high filter 15hz, consistant with the EKG channed filter settings.

Filter settings are discussed in the beginning of the book.
