As per Sleep Med Pearls (Berry), benzodiazepines may be effective in attenuating the brain arousal that is believed to lead to hyperventilation, CO2 blow off and thus the next central apnea. What is the general view about using a benzodiazepine such as clonazepam in a low dose (o.25 mg HS) at the start of the study to titrate PAP and then to continue using it regularly with PAP? After all, clonazepam effectively decreases brain arousal in PLMD.
