8 week old will only sleep for 1 hour at a time

Posted by Toby on February 16, 2000 at 13:51:01:

I have two issues I am dealing with. First-
My 8 week old son will only sleep for about an hour, 2 AT MOST in his crib. When he wakes at night he stays up for atleast 45 minutes to an hour. I keep the lights off and try to sing and speak softly, but his feedings always last a long time. ( I breast feed him until he was 6 weeks, now he is on formula.) He will sleep for 4 hours lying on me, in the car, or in the stroller after a car ride. I have to go back to work in 2 and a half weeks and I would love to develop SOME type of schedule, or atleast be able to get 3-4 hours of continous sleep myself. Please help.
Second-
My son only has a bowel movement about every 3-4 days, sometimes has gone 5 days without one. Evertime he does have a movement, he grunts and groans and gets all red in the face and seems to be straining. His Doc told me to switch him to Lactofree formula, and give him Mylecon drops 3 times a day, which I have. He is having movements more frequently now, but is still straining like before. Any advice?
