Since you have just started weaning him, what you are doing is breaking a 1 year "habit". It will take some time for him to get used to the new routine now. I think you need to be persistent and not give up. Eventually, he should get used to it...it just may take a few days to weeks. I'm sorry I don't know of any means to make it easier but don't give up.
