Infants inability to remain sleeping

Posted by Christy on February 18, 2000 at 12:29:37:

My 16 week old had just begun sleeping in five to six hour stretches at night when she contracted the RSV virus. Her sleeping pattern was disturbed by the illness, medication and the need to sleep in an upright position in her car seat.

Although she recovered within several days, her sleeping patterns have not. She will "fall asleep", but when laid down, will only remain asleep for a few minutes before waking. Around midnight, she finally falls asleep for a few hours out of sheer exhaustion I'd imagine.

Although she is still a bit young for a daytime schedule, she would take short (20-40 min) naps two or three times a day prior to the illness. The same new pattern holds true for daytime. She falls asleep, but remains that way for less than 5 minutes, even if held.

For awhile there I felt like a new person. Now I'm back to the sleep deprived, short tempered, low energy me I am not so fond of.

Help!
