headbanging

Posted by concerned mom on February 19, 2000 at 20:58:24:

our 15 mos old foster child bangs her head forcefully on the mattress while going to sleep...she lies on her tummy, arms up beside her head and bangs either face down or head turned to the side. she has done this for the 8 mos that she has been with us. she tested positive for barbituates and alcohol at birth. questions: any way to stop or decrease this behavior? possible long term damaging effects? pediatrician has offered no advice.
