Ferber- Fantastic or cruel?

Posted by Joyce on July 07, 2000 at 19:39:24:

I have read many of the postings on getting children to sleep - particularly taking naps. Our 8 month-old son goes down fine at night but absolutely refuses to nap in his crib. He will nap if held or while riding in the car. I have him on a schedule during the day, but since I stopped napping with him and have weaned him from nursing, he does not nap and is now sleeping worse at night and awakening earlier in the morning. I have read Ferber's method and have tried it with no success, and have found that I do not have the heart to stick with it for more than a few days. Does anyone have any insight to this problem? I go back and forth between being "tough" and letting him cry, and giving in to what he really wants - which is to be held by Mommy. What am I to do?? Please help!
