Posted by paranoid new mom on July 20, 2000 at 09:27:54:Hi. I'm a new mom of a 3 1/2 week old baby boy. I call the pediatrician almost everyday because I am so paranoid about everything my son does. He goes forever without having a bowel movement (right now, he hasn't gone for 56 hours). He strains a lot and has bad gas. Got any suggestions?
He feeds every 3 hours. He gets 3 oz. of Similac with Iron. We were feeding him 3 1/2 or 4 oz. for a while but then he started spitting up. The doctor told me I was over feeding him so I went back to 3 oz. but he is still spitting up. I have tried sitting him up more instead of only semi-reclining. I've tried burping him more (after every oz.) and less ( burping every 1 1/2 oz.). Sometimes I think it is because he eats it too fast but the doctor won't let me feed him every 2 hours and frankly I am already getting too little sleep for that. I feel like he isn't satisified with only 3 oz. but I don't know what to do about the spitting up. I think if I fed him more he would sleep more but I don't want to overfeed him.
Also, he needs a pacifier to go to sleep. If it falls out, he wakes up. I know this is probably a very bad habit to start but I don't know what else to do.
Sorry this message is so long but what can I tell you, I am a new mom.
