Us paranoid mums are all over the world! I am here in rainy Aberdeen, Scotland and I was exactly the same as you - don't worry you will start to feel more at ease with your beautiful baby in no time at all. My son is now 7 months old, but when he was a baby he had terrible colic and had alot of trouble bringing up wind. My friends baby used to sick up a little after a feed and another friends baby was a projectile vomiter!! Both were fine after a while! To help my baby, I would give him a teaspoon of boiled water, cooled until it was still a little warm and then go thru the winding procedure - it definately helped! Warm water also helps with constipation too. Harris also had, and still has, a pacifier and he wakes up when he realises its fallen out. Because it offers him so much comfort and helps with upset tummies (sucking helps the insides contract and relax better) I have just learned to live with getting up at night to put it back in. Realistically I think that I will probably have to wait until he is about 18 months old before the pacifier goes, as he wouldn't be able to cope if I took it off him now. Finally, I don't believe that there is any such thing as a bad habit - YOU will always know what is best for YOUR baby and never let anyone tell you otherwise. It is your choice what you decide for your baby, whether it is a pacifier, taking them into bed with you, going to them instead of letting them cry, etc - ignore the old farts who try to tell you that you are spoiling your baby - its rubbish! Good luck and, above all, enjoy your baby!
