It sounds to me like he is overtired. In my opinion a 9:30 10 pm bedtime for a 12 month old is way to late. Sleep Begets sleep. How is his napping during the day? He should be taking 2 naps at least an hour a piece. I would make his schedule look like this: bedtime no later than 7:30 wake up at 7:00 am nap at 9 and 1 for an hour to an hour and half.

He also can be night waking because he knows you will bring him into your bed and now it is a habit.
