There shouldn't be problems getting a 5 weeek old to sleep. I would go ahead and change his formula. It could be the root of alot of problems. When my son was an infant (he's 7 now) I had him on Similac w/iron and had problems getting him to sleep and the fussiness and the constipation. I now have a 3 month old daughter, and I have her on Carnation Good Start by Nestle for 0-12 months. It has "Easy to Digest Proteins" She sleeps like and angel, isn't constipated, not fussy unless she's hungry. I don't know if there is a connection between the formula and sleeping but it sure can't hurt to try it for a week. I also don't wait the typical 2 or 3 hours before I give her another bottle. Even just a couple of ounces. If she acts like she's hungry, I give it to her. If she's not, she won't take it. I've found she eats alot more on her "growth spurts days." I can't make her bottles fast enough.
If the constipation becomes a problem, give him some apple or white grape juice, that usually does the trick.
Remember, they say mother know's best, and your his mother. If your gut tells you to do something different then try it, you can always go back. Good Luck
