anyone using carnation good start or lacto-free formulas?

Posted by paranoidmom on August 02, 2000 at 12:42:09:

My son is 5 1/2 weeks old. For the last 4 1/2 weeks, he has been on Similac w/ Iron. He sometimes doesn't have a bm for 2-3 days and when he does it is with my help (rectal thermometer). He has pretty bad gas and he starins and gruts allt he time. He spits up 1-1 1/2 tablespoons of formula almost every feeding. He has also started not sleeping because of the grunting & squirming so he is more fussy than normal. I have gotten advice that Carnation is easier to digest so that constipation, gas, and fussiness are lessened. Does anyone else agree? My doctor wants me to try Lacto-free but this has the same amount of iron in it as the Similac with Iron and supposedly the iron is what causes the constipation. Also if he was lactose intolerant, wouldn't he be vomiting instead of just spitting up some? Help! I don't know what to do!!
