I am so glad that I found this! I was wondering if there had been any studies done on this whole concept. I have an 8.5 month old that has slept throught the night since a very early age and 12 days ago woke 2 hours after going down for the night. He woke shreaking! and he has not been the same ever since. He won't nap and has been waking all night. He is teathing and he just started to learn to crawl today. When he wakes he flips over from his back to his belly and props himself up on his hands and screams. I have talked to every mom I know. Have visited every related web site and even took him to the Doctor yesterday. And I have no answer as to what to do to get my little guy back to sleep. I know what is wrong. He is trying to master this new skill and it takes over when he transitions into a light sleep phase. Everything I read says "cry it out" or Ferberize- I have literally tried everything! I havn't missed a trick. The only thing that settles my little guy is to sleep with me. But everything I read says he needs to learn to sleep on his own. Well, up untill 12 days ago he did. He went down at 7 slept till 7am and took two 1.5-2 hr naps a day. I had the most rested child I know of, and the happiest. Now my little guy has a rash under his nose from a runny nose from crying and his throat is sore and I feel like a failure!
I know I am not the only one out there having this issue. I would love to have him in bed with me every night but both my husband and I have tendonitis, and neck problems and we wake up hurting after our cute little bed hog has been in bed with us.I'm just venting now, but I'm so tired and questioning this whole concept, and so happy to find some documentation on this theory.
Thanks-any feedback is greatly welcomed.
