night wakings of an 81/2 month old

My child went into his crib about 3 weeks ago and wakes about 5 times a night and does not go back to sleep immediatly. Sometimes I nurse him and sometimes not. It doesn't seem to make a difference. We tried Dr. Ferber's methods and nothing is working. HELP
