Napping on own

Posted by Lynn Kroger on January 30, 2001 at 18:12:01:

My baby has never been a good napper on his own. He is now 14 weeks old. Once he was 5 weeks I was finally able to get him to him to take good naps by putting him in a front pack carrier in which he would sleep great. Now that he is older and heavier, I find it difficult to carry him around for 1-2 hours at a time and I think he is having a difficult time as well. My doctor said I could let him cry it out, i.e. Ferber method. We did it for night and he is great and began sleeping through. Naps are a different story. He will cry anywhere from 1-2 hours. I've been doing this for almost 2 weeks now and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. Is he too young for this? Ferber's book doesn't mention babies this young in his book. Should I wait till he's older? The only problem with waiting is what to do in the meantime. Pacifiers, bouncy seats, swings, all do not put him to sleep. Only me holding him! I love him but desperately need a break and he does need a nap. Advice???
