Hi Wendy,

Thanks for taking the time to review my message. We thought Griffin might be a grazer too, until we experimented with his feeding schedule, food items, etc.. Essentially, we discovered that this child has an appetite like you wouldn't believe. We always allow him to eat until he's full, which usually means he finished his plate and then opts for what is on ours before he motions "finished"! And, as per our gp's input, his metabolism seems fine, he just happens to have a hearty appetite. Go figure.

As well, we have also noticed that he doesn't always need to nurse at night when he wakes up and will in fact, often refuse the breast or sippy cup if offered. When this pattern occured, we realized it wasn't for nutrition sake or for a drink that he was waking up. At one, he is on a full daytime diet as tolerated in the solids department, has soymilk, water and juice to supplement cups of breast milk during the day and then nurses in the mornings, evenings and overnight.

Unless we're missing something, we feel pretty confident it's not diet that's the problem.

So....you're right Wendy, it's Griffin's inability to stay asleep and get back to sleep that is the problem, but we are coming up void on all our attempts to fix this. I wish there was a magic wand!!

It's just the getting there part we're not having any luck on. I do uphold William Sear's thought that a child, if desired, should be parented to sleep. It is an extra few minutes a day we are willing to give our son, given we are away from each other all day due to work and daycare. So, admittedly, if he falls asleep nursing or in our arms, that's alright with us.

But after we tuck him in, that's when the problems start. Whining, crying, thrashing or any combination - the usual stuff, can be an hourly occurence after the initial lay down.

Despite our belief in the Sears method, we really have tried almost every other suggestion (within reason!) offered to us, primarily out of desperation. We are still coming up blank.

Given this, it is so nice to have this forum and the opportunity to et feedback but also to review other people's techniques! Anything to help, right?

Any further feedback is greatly appreciated.
