Posted by Marla on February 15, 2001 at 06:17:24:I have a 28 month old boy and a 4 month old girl. My son started preschool 2 months ago and as you see has a new sibling. I realize there have been a lot of changes in his life but my perfect sleeper has become a nightmare. He sleeps in a toddler bed and will not stay in bed when we put him to sleep or during the night. Here is a typical nite:
Once we read books and I say "Goodnite" he usually gets up out of bed 2-3 times before he actually goes down for the night. Then in the middle of night he gets out of bed 1-3 times and comes into our room. We have read many books and follow Weissbluth's direction. We quickly pick him up or walk him back to his bed with no talking and he usually will go back to sleep. When we put him to bed we tell him to please stay in bed and not come into our room for many reasons: we all need sleep, he needs to be awake and happy for school, and if he stays in bed he can watch Barney in our bed in the morning. He understands this and repeats it to us but we have been going thru the same process for 2 months. We have also tried closing the door - which he opens or cries forever - we even tried a gate and he becomes so upset by the thought that he can cry for 1/2 hour and then we finally go in the put him back in bed.PLEASE HELP.
