I have had this experience with my son who is 6 months old now. He slept well at night from an early age but has always napped poorly. I would suggest getting him up from his nap after he cries for 5 minutes or so to be sure that he's not going to fall back asleep. When he shows signs of tiredness again,try to put him back to bed. This has been my strategy and it works fairly well for me. Good luck!
