Hi! Just some questions...

Does your son wake at all during the night? Is he breast or bottle fed? How many hours is he sleeping during the day? It is not uncommon for babies this age to get their days and nights mixed up and start sleeping more during the day and less at night. If this is what is happening, then you might consider shortening his naptimes a little. Try waking him up a little early from his mid-afternoon nap, if he normally sleeps two hours, cut it to 1 1/2 and see how he does. If he gets too cranky, don't push it. Keep daytime stimulating, keep the house well lit, don't close the blinds or let things get too quiet. Make sure he gets plenty of sunlight, even if it is just from laying in a sunny spot on the carpet for a while. Play with him and encourage him to be active as much as he will comfortably tolerate. (don't overdo the stimulation, if he starts to turn away or get fussy, let him rest for a while. The objective is to make sure he isn't sleeping during the day because he is understimulated)

Does he wake to eat at night? If he is waking to eat, then staying awake to play, you might try "tanking him up" before bedtime with an extra feeding, if he will take it. Many babies "cluster nurse" just before bedtime. No solids though, they do NOT help babies sleep better, that is an old wives tale.

It is normal for babies to start sleeping less and less as they get older, the trick is to try to help them sleep at the right times! :-) If your baby is sleeping through the night (more than 4-5 hours in a row) consider yourself fortunate! Many 4 month olds are still waking to eat ever 3 hours at this age! (all of mine did this!) If you think he is waking because of noises in the house, you might try something to make "white noise" in his room, like a humidifier or fish tank (the air compresser makes a nice humming sound)

Just be patient, this is all new to him, too. :-) I hope things work out for you soon! Enjoy your little one!
