Marc Weissbluth (sleep specialist) says:

"at 12 months of age, 80% of all infants are taking two naps and 20% are taking 1".

"at 21 months of age, 90% of all infants are taking one naps and 10% are still taking 2".

I would say at 10 months, your child is still too young for only one nap a day. He/She will be a bear by bedtime. What I found with my 16 month old, is that the morning nap is becoming much shorter - anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. The afternoon nap is now 1 to 2 hours.

Hope that helps!
