I fully agree that Babywise is full of useful advice. I also read the book cover to cover and found that what many people say about their method is false. They do not advocate letting a baby CIO. They do not advocate making your baby wait until the next "scheduled" feeding period. They say to feed a baby that is hungry. Comfort a baby when they need comfort. I found their feed/wake/sleep cycle very helpful and followed some of their tips along with other information from different sources and my own instincts. My son was sleeping through the night at 8 weeks and has never had a sleep problem. He is almost 2 years and he goes down for naps and bedtime very agreeably. He is a bright, caring, sensitive and charming little boy. Helping him learn to sleep did not create a distrustful or insecure child. If anything I helped him to learn to trust himself, to believe in himself and to realize that he is a very capable human being. Using some of these methods did not require me to feed him less than he needed or leave him crying by himself all the time. People should use a little common sense and learn to trust themselves as parents. We aren't perfect but we can read our children and decide what is best for them. Anyone who follows ANY "program" blindly is doing a disservice to their children. I don't see why Babywise is the one getting the bad wrap.
