I too have a 7-week-old who wasn't taking good naps during the day but sleeping alright at night. However we discovered that my son had reflux and since starting him on Zantac he is sleeping much better. Do you think it could be a medical issue? If you are formula feeding could it be the formula? Or something in your breastmilk? I know that it was difficult for us to get to the heart of our son's reflux because he did sleep well in the late evening and at night but couldn't settle down for the day time naps.
I would also suggest trying to tummy sleep during the day to see if he is more comfortable that way. We actually put our son in a bouncy seat in his crib for him to sleep because he seems most comfortable that way. It is also possible that your son is just a baby that needs to cry a little before drifting off. Do you give him 5 mintues to see if he will fall asleep? I know that is seems like an eternity but I have found if I just watch a clock and wait 5 mintues my son will fall asleep and then sleep for 2 or even 3 hours a couple of times a day. I think it just takes some time to figure out their tired cues and if you don't get them down at the right moment they won't go to sleep at all. Sometimes I catch it and sometimes I don't but I know that eventually we will figure it out!
Let me know if you find anything useful.
