6 mo. old & 30 min. naps

I am so happy to have stumbled upon this forum. My husband and I are at our wits end. Our 6 month old just won't sleep longer than 30 minutes for his afternoon nap. By 5 p.m. he is miserably tired. We have the Weissbluth book but can't seem to find info on what to do if your baby goes to sleep fine, but only sleeps 30 minutes. Anyone know what I should try next?
