My daughter went through a bad period, just like what you describe. She's gotten better recently (not perfect though); I think it's partly because she's a bit older (7 1/2 months), and because I finally got her to pretty much sleep through the night, so at least she's more rested.

From about 3 months to recently, she also stopped sleeping in the stroller or even in the car. Once in a while she would, but only after quite a bit of crying. Recently she's started falling asleep in the stroller, but she has to fall asleep sitting up, she doesn't like lying down in the stroller. Also, it can't be somewhere busy, like in a mall; the best place is going for a walk along a fairly busy street; the noise of the traffic (except once in a while a siren or car horn) seems to help to relax her, as does the bumpy sidewalk. And, it's best to start the walk BEFORE she starts to get tired, ex: if she's been up for an hour or so and is in a good mood.

I sympathize with you about not being able to go out! My daughter, besides having problems with sleep, wouldn't nurse often. Sometimes I knew it was because of distractions, since if I were out, even in a quiet nursing room in a mall, she wouldn't nurse, even though she hadn't eaten in 3, 4, 5, sometimes even 6 hours. I tried different positions, read everything I could, talked to nurses, called the La Leche League; I still don't know why she does it sometimes! But it has gotten much better since I don't feed her at night.

I also had major problems with her naps; I tried rocking her before she looked tired, after 2 hours, sometimes less; I tried waiting longer, I tried EVERYTHING. She would cry if she had to fall asleep on her own; but she also hated being rocked to sleep, or anything else! Once in a while she'd fall asleep nursing, but usually she'd just finish eating then start fussing, even after burping, etc. (only if I was trying to put her to sleep). If I stopped trying to put her to sleep, she'd be tired but happy, usually. It's like she just wanted to BE asleep, she was tired; but she didn't like the feeling of falling asleep or something.

A few questions (things I talked about in my last post in response to you) - have you tried rocking him to sleep for naps? Have you tried getting him to sleep later in the morning? What do you do when he wakes during the night or from a nap? What about putting him back to sleep the minute he wakes from a short nap? How does your baby eat (nurse/bottle/solids)?
