My daughter absolutely hates her crib and never has slept well in it. I was sleeping with her on a futon mattress on the floor of her room. This worked great. She would only wake up once for a snack at about 2 to 3 am. But unfortunately, my back cannot take the futon any more. They aren't very comfy for adults. So what we are doing now is moving her crib to our room and side-carring it. We have removed one of the side railings and pushed it up snug to our bed. We have raised the mattress level with ours and stuck a plywood board underneath, and wedged a body pillow into the gap. She loves it....and guess what, she gets up at about 7 am, but will play quietly until about 8 am letting me sleep an extra hour! She never did this on the futon. I guess she just needs me close by. Eventually, we hope to put up the other side rail and move the whole thing into her own room. A gradual "weaning" process, if you will.
Hope this helps.
