How often does he nap during the day, and for how long? Sometimes I had to find things that would put my babies to sleep like taking daily car trips (if they fall asleep in their carseat) or stroller rides, or pacing/dancing until they fell asleep. Whatever worked. The idea is to help them get used to sleeping at a certain time every day. If he is wiped out at 6, then try pushing a nap at 3 or 4. Then if he wakes up and wants to be awake for a few more hours, you can put him down at 8 or 9. Hopefully this will encourage him to sleep longer at night. Or it is possible that you will just have to learn to be an early riser for a while. Go get him, love on him, put him down on the floor with some toys, and lay down on the floor next to him. You can relax and even cat-nap as long as you make sure the room is babyproofed and you shut the door. This way if he needs you, he can get you, and if not, you can still rest. Go to bed when he goes to bed! I know this sounds way too early, but it is either that or be totally worn out when your little rooster wakes you with the sun! Whenever possible, take naps when he naps during the day, too. That is one of the most valuable pieces of advice a new mother can get! Sleep when your baby sleeps! The housework and everything else will still be there when your baby gets on a more regular schedule. Chin up, it does get better... it just takes time!
Best wishes,
Stephanie
