Appreciate your response. I try to be very carfeul about the burping - making sure he's burped before he's put down. But, holding him upright tends to keep him up - he loves to look around, even when we're in his room and it's dark.
I've also been massaging him since we brought him home from the hospital! He loves to have his feet rubbed and it really calms him down - however, once he starts his naptime crying, there isn't much that soothes him. I've tried music, but will give it another shot. I've also tried dancing with him - which can put him to sleep, but as soon as I try to lay him down in the crib, he wakes up. That's when the tummy rubbing starts, which works most of the time. I want him to be able to fall asleep on his own so I don't always want to rock him to sleep, but, I also don't want to cause any lingering problems for him. The ped thought it might be related to reflux or heartburn, but I don't think so because he doesn't have as much of a crying problem at night. So, I would agree this is just one of those developmental things that he will eventually grow out of - I was just hoping for a magic answer! It's just very hard to see him cry and not be able to help him!
As far as his daytime routine I let him set his own pace - he wakes up in the morning, eats, plays, and when he starts to yawn/rub his eyes, then I know it's getting close to naptime.
Thanks again for your response!
