11 month old not napping w/o help

Posted by Anne on February 08, 2002 at 12:45:15:

My son is now 11 months old. He has been sleeping through the night since 5 months old. He also has been able to put himself to sleep, whether for naps or at night, since that time. 2 weeks ago he started refusing to nap at all during the day!! He is definitely exhausted and will eventually dose off if he is rocked to sleep or nursed to sleep. Oddly, he has no problem still putting himself to sleep at night. I am frustrated because he was able to do this for so many months. I have tried to leave him in his crib and go into his room to reassure him every 10 minutes but after an hour my nerves (& his) can't handle it any more. What should I do???
I don't understand why he (all of a sudden) seems to be fighting his need to sleep.
