Your baby should be alert for a short while after feeding, and then be put back in bed without the confort of nursing, endless carrying and rocking (until he falls asleep).. 3 weeks.. I would say this is a good age to start to teach him to fall asleep on his own. Don't wait until he is overtired to put him back to bed, periods of wakefulness at this age shouldn't exceed 1 to 1 hour and a half. Put him back to bed about half an hour after feeding, rock him just a little (1 minute or two), talk to him gently, put him in bed and.. leave!! Same for each nap, evening bedtime, nightime, etc.. Expect a little protest at first, but if he is well fed, well loved, there is not reason to think that he wouldn't be able to achieve this on his own. Good luck!
