Gail, although I know many a baby who slept in their car seat (my own included), I was warned by a doctor that the position can be dangerous especially for infants at who are at an increased risk for SIDS because of the way their head bends forward onto their chest, possibly constricting the airway. He suggested that elevating the head of the crib or bassinet was preferred. What I did was used pillows to position the carseat at a slight backwards tilt so it wasn't so upright, this way he was less likely to have his head drop forward. Ask your pediatrician what he/she thinks.
