Whilst i understand the need to set limits on a forum, I cannot fully appreciate your concerns, many parents I am sure will have stumbled across this forum, like myself, in desperate need of some answers and reassurance.
I am an intelligent, articulate professional and my children's needs always come first, however, humans are not born with an inbuilt manual on parent, and whilst instinct and common sense take care of most parenting needs, sometimes children present us with a challenge that we cannot reason or find a solution to.
Thinking that we ought to be able to 'fix' things for our children, we hesitate from seeking professional help in case we are branded neurotic etc, so as parents we try and seek as much info as we can first (from family, friends and forums such as these), so that we can go 'armed with info' to the professionals and even in some circumstances, realise that there is a solution that we as parents can administer.
I agree that forums such as this one should not be used to discuss specific 'treatments' or sleep management programs etc, it can only lead to disagreement, besides I'm sure there are ample books, websites dedicated to this type of info and as informed parents, we are able to access this info and make our own decisions about our children.
However, I found this forum at a time when things were bad for me and received much encouragement, support and advice, at no time did i expect 'unknown' parents to diagnose my child's problem or to tell me how to deal with it, but, as an educated, informed and intelligent person, I will take the points which I feel are relevant to me and discard any which I feel are inappropriate and so should others. It is a shame that people cannot stick to those goals as it wil, I am sure, restrict others use of this forum.
Things are much improved for us now, partly due to the advice and support I gained from the forum, so many thanks for that, although i probably don't need to post messages anymore, I will be keeping an eye on the postings, out of interest and more probably 'curiosity!'
