Somedays he would wake up happy and others not. Most of the time he would wake up a little cranky because he was tired. His brain just didnt know how to keep him asleep for longer than 45 minutes. Now he naps for 1.5 to 2 hours...he does sometimes wake up after 45 minutes..but then he fusses for about 19 minutes and goes back to sleep. I know if he fusses longer than 10 minutes that he means business and that hes not going to sleep anymore. This rarely happens anymore though.
I know what you mean by challenges. None of the sleep experts even address the cat napping issue. You wouldnt believe how common it is. My doctor said that it will pass and I didnt believe her and than it did. So hang in there.
The best advice I can give you is give your son as much rest as he will take. If that means he is taking 4 naps a day at 45 minutes a piece..so be it. Thats what it took for my son to remain sain. He couldnt be awake longer than an hour an a half. Now I can get 2 to 3 hours out of him at a time. Never in the morning..but in the afternoon. So he is down from 4 to 5 naps a day to 3 naps a day.
Good luck...dont forget..you need rest too!
