heather,
I have read Healthy Sleep Happy child, I awaited its arrival in the mail hoping it would have some piece of advice to help us out. We did establish an early bedtime and now my little girl goes to sleep between 6 and7. She gets up at 7 am. of course with several night wakings. If she wakes before 10 she can put herself back to sleep. If it has been 4-6 hours between bedtime and waking I will feed her (book recommends this) But if and when she wakes later in the night, she just can't go back to sleep. Its strange, if i nurse her, she finishes wide awake, looks up at me and smiles, I go put her in crib and back to dreamland she goes, no fuss at all. But if I don't nurse her, and believe me no rocking, patting etc. works, she whines and cries for who knows how long...Not sure what to do. Doubt its a growth spurt...been going on to long. SHe use to be a good self soother, no fuss at naptime. NOw she cries when I put her down and then unless I nurse her right before nap...she is wide awake at 30 minutes but still yawning and tired. Her pedicatrian doesnt seem concerned about her sleep...this agitates me..I think good sleep is crucial. She won't sleep aNywhere but her crib...no swing, not rocking her etc.
As far as routine, she was on 3 hour on forever..never got past it. Now she is awake for 2 hours waketime and by the time she goes down for nap it is nearly eating time again...Im so confused. I want so badly to help her develop good sleep habits. Book you suggested says taht nursing before nap and bed is not a problem. I know this isnt eat/wake/sleep ...so many philosophies that contridict. If I could figure out a way to expand her routine and nurse before naps then perhaps it would help.
Thanks for the reply. Will continue to try to find ways of helping her sleep.
