Transition to 1 nap?

Posted by sueabbykins on May 08, 2002 at 07:39:59:

My dd has started taking one longer nap in the morning and is then unable to take a 2nd nap. She generally wakes up from this nap about 12-12:30pm which makes it a long day to get to her usual 6:30pm bedtime. She generally wakes about 6:15-6:45am for the day and her nap starts approx. 10-10:30. What should I be doing to get that nap to happen later in the day. It is sometimes tough to get her to stay up until the 10 am nap time, but I have read to push her a little longer each day to get a later nap. I have tried this a couple of times-sometimes she still takes a long nap, but sometimes she takes a short one anywhere from 20-50 min. How long should she eventually be able to stay up until her naptime-4 hrs or longer?
