Your baby sounds a lot like mine. Dustin is 13 months and has always been a good night sleeper. But he never used to take long naps. He took 2-3 30 minute naps a day until he was about 9 months. Until one day, he just started taking longer naps and he has been pretty good since then. I think this is more common than we realize. My advice to you is to be patient, and you will probably see that your baby will start taking longer naps naturally. One thing that might have helped is that when he was about 8 months old, I would not go into his room right away when he woke after 30 minutes. Sometimes he would cry for about 10 minutes and then go back to sleep. If he cried for longer than 10 minutes, he would be in too much of a frenzy to get himself back to sleep. You might want to try that.
