Sue,
Thanks for taking the time to work with me on this problem. My daughter 7 1/2 months, wakes up most days at 6 am. We get up have breakfast, nurse and solids, and I put her down by 8:00am for a nap. She has yawned at this point, now that she is older she protest naps quite strongly, but that morning nap she usually takes about 15 minutes to settle down and go to sleep. Exactly 30 minutes later she wakes crying. I have tried letting her try to go back to sleep, up to 30 minutes, this no longer works and so I get her up and we do the best we can, She is irritable and not herself. I had been putting her down as soon as she seemed tired after that 1st nap. Now i am trying to get her as close to 12 as I can, here is why. The second nap takes her 20-30 minutes to settle into sleep, more protest, she is in a big mommy phase. She sleeps for exactly! 30 minutes, then up and irritable. She will not nap the rest of the day. It will take her 45 mins to settle and its not worth a little 30 minute nap so I dont even try for a late afternoon anp anymore. WE do the best we can to get to her 6:00 bedtime which starts with nursing around 5:45. I go in to "top her off" at 10:00 to keep up my milk supply and then she sleeps most nights until 6 am. my daughter is so wonderful and such a happy baby on the rare occassion she can get at least 1 hour of a nap, a complete cycle, but when she doesnt she suffers and is not herself and its hard to see her this way. I am continuing to hold out hope that she will grow out of this. Hope this helps.
Evie
