Posted by Seles on September 19, 2006 at 08:05:05:My lil guy was such a good sleeper until about 4 weeks ago. He slept from 7:30pm till 6am w/o waking up at about 2 months. I thought I was just blessed with a good sleeper until he hit about 2.5 months and everything seemed to go downhill.
First off: I stopped swaddling him, he seemed ready to have his arms unrestricted, and would ALWAYS break out of his swaddle during the night (I used one of those Swaddleme things, and 9 times of 10 he'd have it up around his head by the time he woke up... scarey). Even tho it only took about 2 nights to get used to sleeping without one, he regressed to waking up at 3am instead of 6... np with me really, once a night isnt too much of a problem (since he woke up at 9am anyway).
Secondly: he went thru a pretty long growth spurt last week, lasted about a week and really I dont think its really ended quite yet. That made his night sleeping even worse, backing up to 11pm-12am, 3am and 6am wakings for food. Which, hes still doing now.
Thirdly: to top off all the other stuff, he started rolling over, both back to front AND front to back (the latter not being as offen). Hes also very active in the crib, I have to put him in the bottom left corner so he has enough room to roll over and scoot up the crib... which he usually gives in by halfway to sleep.
Fourth(ly?): during this spurt, he decided to sleep ONLY on his tummy, and aint no positioner/towel gunna stop him (funnily enough I tried a positioner the first night he was rolling, the lil punk scooted up, out and rolled over anyway).
I reallllllly miss his 7pm to 6am sleep runs, hell even 7 to 3 was ok with me, but this waking up at 12, 3 and 6 is a little hard physically, but mostly its affecting me mentally. I keep wondering if there is something I've done wrong, or that I need to do to help my lil guy sleep better. Especially since he was once such a darn good sleeper 4-5 weeks ago. Is this just a usual thing for 3month olds? To just regress a little in sleep patterns only to pick it up again later?
Also, I have read ferber's book, and I'm fine with his methods. I know its not wise to go all out with his training before 6 months, but I do let him cry a little when I first put him down to sleep (he only usually lasts 5 mins before hes out anyway) and a little during the night if its not his usual feeding time. I was thinking of trying the progressive wait thing when he wakes up (to try and get him out of eating 3-4 times a night) but I just dont know if it would even be worth it this young. I dunno if he wakes up out of habit, or real need.
So, should I just give in and feed him whenever he wakes up? (he always falls right back to sleep when hes done eating, even if he is awake at the end of it) Or has he formed bad habits from this growth spurt and all the other stuff?
To train or not to train..... heh yeah that was corny... Thanks for any advice :)
