Last night we decided to change the routine up a bit. We gave her a bottle around 7:30pm, and she started showing signs of being tired at 8:30. We immediately changed her and got her ready for bed, and placed her in the crib. We did not top her off with another bottle. My wife and I stood by and reassured her until she fell asleep (took about 30 minutes).
We were amazed at how relatively easy that was compared to the drama of the last few weeks. Our daughter woke up about 30 minutes later in berserk mode, and we could not calm her down. After about 30 minutes of frantic screaming and crying in her crib we picked her and and calmed her down. We gave her a bottle (which she drank down vigorously) and then placed her back in the crib. After about another 30 minutes of reassuring, she was asleep again. That was at about 11pm, and she didn't wake up until 8am this morning.
So it seems like the problem is not GERD related (although we are still going to talk to our pediatrician about it). Her 2nd bout of crying seemed more to be hunger related than anything, and both my wife and I feel a little bit better about her being able to fall asleep in her crib other than our arms.
We'll keep trying this to see if it gets easier. Thanks again for the help and advice.
