What's normal?

I am the grandmother of a healthy happy almost-9-month-old baby girl.
What is considered "normal" or "average" in terms of length of time for her to sleep?
It seems to me that she is sleeping too MUCH. Mom gets her up anywhere from 9 am to 12 pm (!!!) She occassionally works late at night. Keeps her up for maybe an hour or two, then puts her down for a 2-3 hour nap. Gets her up for another hour or two and then another long nap.
The other day I put her down at 9 pm and she slept until NOON.
Is this normal? Wouldn't she tend to wake up because of hunger and/or being wet?
She is happy and healthy in every other way, as far as I can tell.
