We've all shared our experiences on this forum, and I'd say we have more than enough information to get started. I'm not sure what the best course of action is, but it seems logical to begin by formulating our stories for submission to the media. What organization will be the most receptive to our struggle? There are countless nighttime news programs, talk shows (let's not make this an episode of Jerry Springer!), and magazines to pursue. I want this to be taken very seriously. What is our objective? We want attention drawn to our problem, but what do we want to accomplish? What is our message?
It is my sincere wish that SOMEONE out there will digest our information and be able to find a common thread among us. We know the obvious: stress, anxiety, poor sleep habits at one time or another, etc. But I believe there is something more.
Some things to keep in mind when composing your personal history: when the insomnia began, amount of time it has been a problem, steps taken to "cure" it, i.e., medication, therapy, sleep clinics, etc., and most importantly, how it has affected our lives.
Insomnia has been with me since childhood. I have stumbled through my life in a fog. I have an above average level of intelligence, however I wonder what potential I may have that gets lost in sleep deprivation. I've lost jobs (can't get up during normal business hours, productivity has suffered, etc.) and my personal relationships have been compromised. I can't believe that this is all stress and anxiety. After all, my sleep disturbance began when I was twelve. I can't imagine what role stress played in my life as a child which would cause such difficulties in adulthood. It had to start somewhere, and it's time for all of us to find out why this is happening, and what we can do about it.
Let's do what we can to bring this out in the open. Any suggestions?
