Attention All Insomnia Suffers, Let's Organize

Posted by Meg on November 28, 1998 at 17:31:01:

Thanks Roger for taking the first step. Let's all start focusing on more constructive steps in helping ourselves and others. Let's start fighting for our rights to be heard for more adequete treatment in the medical field. We have suffered in silence to long, thinking were the only one. Now we know that this is happening to millions of people thanks to the forum. For the first time it is now available to connect and fight for what is right. To fight for health, happiness and to have more normal lives. We deserve it! Nobody is going to do a thing until we make ourselves heard.

Everyone who has ever been discriminated against has had to do the same thing, fight. Frankly I'm tired of doctors blaiming me for my insomnia. I'm tired of them making me feel quilty for asking questions they don't know the answers to. We are an embarrassment to the medical field. The condition is growing regardless of the 10 sleep hygiene techniques they've been throwing at us for the last 25 years, they say it's phychological so they have an answer. I have had doctors behave right out rude to me, telling me "to learn to live with it" and "insomnia never killed anyone". The latest studies have confirmed that sleep deprivation is dangerous in more ways than one. This is the best time to fight back.

Anyone interested in sending their stories to Dateline, 20/20, 60 minutes and Ophrah Winfrey or any other shows we can agree on, please send your e-mail stories to me. If you'd rather not share, but would like to submit your stories to these news programs begin writing your stories. Try to keep the stories under 2 pages. I agree with all the things Lori suggested. I think we should include what the condition has personally done to our lives, all the medical treatment we have sought, the money we have spent, the fact that we have received little or no help and the horrible, degrading way doctors have treated us. Make sure to include job loses, relationship problems, diagnoses of mental problems, hospitalizations, disabilities, etc.

When we get enough stories together we should submit them all around the same date so the stories coming rushing in. We should submit our stories every 6 months until we are finally heard. They'll do something once they get so much e-mail they"ll have no choice. I think they will be shocked. Those are my suggestions. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Meg
