Mike,
You have nothing to apologize for. I knew exactly what you were saying; I even knew about Campbell's example. Any of us who live with insomnia are certainly not grateful for it. What I am truly thankful for is the hyper-awareness lack of sleep has given me. We all have tremendous gifts: the ability to love, to understand, and to care. We (insomniacs) spend our waking moments analyzing our lives and those around us, and it stands to reason that with all of that extra time on our hands, we have acquired a greater empathy toward mankind in general.

We're a sensitive and compassionate bunch. We've been kicked while we were down, and had tremendous blows to our spirits. But we're obviously survivors, and the fact that each of us writes on this forum, searching for answers, providing comfort and a sense of unity, is an encouraging testament to our will.

It fills me with sadness to read that you've lost your wife and your religion. Love and faith are essential ingredients in survival. It's heartbreaking to read the stories of loss: family, friends, God, jobs, self-esteem and hope. I've lost all of those things at one point, but I've fought very hard to regain them. I CAN'T and WON'T let this destroy me, or take any more of me than has already been taken.

Your words of advice and support are invaluable on this forum. Please don't forget that.
Lori
