Light therapy has been played around with for a very long time. It is arguable that it is not the light but the eye movement in response to the light that causes results. Much like the hypnotist swinging his pocket watch in a pendulum fashion. The first aggressive research of this correlation (eye movement to subconscious emotion) began in the 60’s. After the whole CIA/LSD hype many of these legitimate research projects died off. However the eye movement research is back in force. Termed as Eye Movement Desensitization and Realization, EMDR has proven extremely successful in certain situations. The main focus, which I have had the privilege to assess and analyze, is the use of EMDR in post traumatic stress syndromes, such as plane crash victims, rape victims, etc. The results were far beyond any of my expectations. I am certain that EMDR will be experimented in other situations. A few notes though, EMDR is to be used only by certified and well trained clinicians. Too many people have read a text on EMDR and found themselves fit to practice it, sometimes on themselves. I’m not joking when I say it can do much more harm than good, if used improperly. This may or may not have addressed your question, but at least allowed me the forum to discuss some promising foregrounds in sleep depravation control.
